If you have kids also and you have wooden flooring then you may also want to consider having rugs on the floor. Rugs can be used all over the home, not just in the lounge, so if you have a large echoic hallway, then the use of a rug will not only give the hall a better feel, but also will protect your wooden floor from being damaged when people walk through with muddy shoes.
